“You allowed my beautiful flowers to bloom…”

A Letter from a DASH Mom

Last week, a mother of three currently in the DASH program sent us a note that deeply moved our team. With her full permission, we are honored to share her words with you.

As graduation season comes to a close, her story is a reminder that sometimes the impact of safe housing, community care, and stability looks like something beautifully simple: a child walking across a stage, bringing home a certificate, or getting the chance to dream about the future.

Here is Salima* letter, in her own words:

Dear DASH Network and Munatsi,
I am writing this with a heart so full of gratitude that words feel entirely inadequate.
Today has been a monumental milestone for my family: my daughter celebrated her kindergarten graduation, and my son, in second grade, received Roll of Honor and high performance certificates in almost all of his subjects.
Looking at them today, I know with absolute certainty that this beautiful moment would not have been possible without your unwavering help, commitment, and kindness.
When my husband made the painful, ultimate sacrifice to send us fleeing from our home country to the USA — staying behind because he could not escape — all to save our children from the horrific threat of violent extremists, our future was completely uncertain.
We arrived with heavy hearts and immense fear.
But here, in your care, you have nurtured my children and allowed my beautiful flowers to bloom.
The love, help, and genuine care you have showered upon us is something I could have never imagined.
No matter how many years pass, and long into the future when my children are standing at their university graduations, we will never forget what you have done for us.
The favor you have done for me and my children is unbelievable. It is a debt of gratitude that my children could never truly repay, no matter how successful they become in life.
Thank you for giving my children a safe place to grow, excel, and smile.
You have changed the trajectory of our lives, and we are forever grateful.
With all my love and deepest thanks,
Resident S*

At DASH, we often talk about housing, legal support, English classes, and community care. But stories like Salima’s* remind us what those supports make possible:

A child proudly walking across a kindergarten stage. A second grader bringing home academic honors. A mother getting to exhale long enough to watch her children thrive.

To every donor, volunteer, advocate, church partner, and supporter: thank you for helping make moments like these possible.

Because of this community, families are finding safety, children are flourishing, and futures are being rebuilt with hope.
