_______
Under the 1961 UN Convention, asylum seekers and refugees meet the same criteria of fleeing on the grounds of persecution or a well-grounded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. The difference is that asylum seekers are not granted refugee status before fleeing an immediate threat, and therefore are assigned a different status upon arrival in the U.S. This also means asylum seekers receive less support and face a different gap in social services than refugees.
The DASH Network program provides housing and other holistic services to assist asylum-seeking families, creating a collaborative community that supports the thriving of a resilient population.
