This is a joyful, informative fundraising event where we provide you with a free delicious Mediterranean dinner, live music, and the screening of a testimony highlighting the story of a beloved DASH graduate who is now serving as a trauma nurse in DFW.

DASH fills in the gaps
Under the 1961 UN Convention, asylum seekers and refugees meet the same criteria of fleeing on the grounds of persecution or a well-grounded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. The difference is that asylum seekers are not granted refugee status before fleeing an immediate threat, and therefore are assigned a different status upon arrival in the U.S. This also means asylum seekers receive less support and face a different gap in social services than refugees. Those seeking asylum in Texas wait anywhere from 12-36 months to receive a work permit and are ineligible for any government housing or social services.*
DASH Network program provides housing and other holistic services during the wait for their work permit to assist asylum-seeking families, creating a collaborative community that supports the thriving of a resilient population.
*WIC is the only exception in which pregnant or breastfeeding mothers and children under 5 years old can receive limited food assistance.
