Purpose of an Advocate:

Love asylum seekers through intentional Christian friendship, addressing both:

The practical needs of acclimating into a new culture
The spiritual/emotional needs through natural discipleship

Advocate Eligibility Requirements:

Demonstrate Christ’s love and truth through words and actions
Affirm our Rule of Faith
Actively attend a local church
Provide one spiritual reference who may speak to your ability to serve
Have the time, capacity, and willingness to serve
Completed Advocate application and complete an interview with the Advocate Coordinator
A completed background check (provided by DASH Network)
Completed in-person volunteer training
Completed online advocate training

The following questions will help us get to know your heart as a Christian and your motivations to serve this specific community. (optional)

1. What motivates you to be an Advocate?

2. What qualities, skills, experiences or knowledge will you bring into your role as an Advocate?

3. Here at DASH we believe in the principle of reciprocity when it comes to relationships - meaning both parties mutually give, serve, and support one another in pursuit of establishing a genuine friendship. How do you see this concept playing out in your advocate relationship?

4. What is your current availability? Is there anything you foresee in the future that will inhibit your ability to fulfill this commitment? (Move, career change, new baby, wedding, etc.)

5. Are you comfortable being paired with a resident with a language barrier? What resources or strategies would you use to overcome these challenges?

Advocate Program Expectation Agreement

I understand that the expectation is a year-long commitment, with the hopes that you remain an advocate until the resident fromexits DASH (on average 12-24 months, but could be shorter or longer).

I understand that I will be receiving emails, text messages, phone calls, and/or mail from the DASH Advocate Program Coordinator to communicate events, updates, and information as needed. I agree to respond in a timely manner.

I understand that I am in no way expected to give financial assistance or donations directly to residents. If you do feel called to do so, please note that there will be no tax deduction receipt for formal record of money or donations given directly. If you would like to make a donation to DASH Network as a whole, a tax deduction receipt will be given. All donations given through the website go to the organization and not a specific person.
